How We Pick

Three picks, three jobs

Each buying guide names three products, each for a different need (for example: best overall, best compact perch, best foldable). Comparisons pit exactly two products against each other.

Where product facts come from

We open every product's live Amazon listing and record its title, brand, specifications, seller, returns line and rating on the day we check. Our copy only states what the listing states. If the listing contradicts itself (one line says machine washable, another says hand wash only) we show you both. Marketing claims such as "anti-tip" or "supports joints" are attributed to the listing, not repeated as fact.

Which products qualify

• Rated 4.0 stars or higher on Amazon, from at least a handful of ratings. We reject listings with a near-perfect score from only a few ratings.
• A real brand and a clear seller. We note whether Amazon, the brand, or a third party sells the item.
• No product appears as a pick in more than one guide.

Ratings

We show each product's star rating and number of ratings as they appeared on Amazon on the date stated. Ratings change. Some Amazon listings share one rating pool across sizes, colors or related models; when we can see that happening, we say so.

Health and behavior claims

Anything about your pet's health, behavior or safety is checked against veterinary bodies (AAFP, ISFM, ACVS), vet schools and hospitals, animal-welfare organizations (ASPCA), the AKC, or peer-reviewed studies. We link the source next to the claim. If a claim isn't supported, we say it isn't proven.
